Edward S. Holt, M.D.
Dr. Holt was the founder of The Orthopaedic and Sports Medicine's Foot and Ankle Clinic. He has made foot and ankle problems his special study. Dr. Holt broadened his knowledge of foot and ankle care with a post-residency scholarship at Harborview Hospital in Seattle, Washington, before joining The Orthopaedic and Sports Medicine Center in 1988. He specializes in the treatment of foot and ankle problems, particularly those associated with trauma, aging, pediatrics, sports injuries, and ankle joint replacement.
A native Annapolitan, Dr. Holt was active in sports throughout his academic career, receiving letters in lacrosse, wrestling, tennis and intercollegiate sailing. He has served the community on the Board of Trustees of Maryland Hall, the Clapham Institute, the AAMC PHO Steering Committee, and as team physician for the Severna Park High School. Due to his interest in sailing, he was made advisor to the American team of the 1997 Round-The-World Whitbread Yacht Race on the emergency treatment of orthopaedic injuries that might be sustained in the course of the race.
Dr. Holt has published many medical papers on foot and ankle surgery and continues active research on the subject. He holds two patents for orthopaedic devices and continues his work in the development of new devices and techniques. He is Board certified and a Fellow of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons, a founding member of the Maryland Foot club, and a Fellow with the American Orthopaedic Foot and Ankle Society. He was elected to the Staff Orthopaedic Surgeon at AAMC in 1988 and was Chief of Orthopaedic Surgery from 2002 to 2005..
Dr. Holt studied Biochemistry at Brown University and the University of Maryland before earning his Doctorate in Medicine at the University of Maryland, in Baltimore, in 1982. He gained valuable insights into orthopaedic surgery during his residency at the University of Maryland Hospital and its Shock Trauma Unit.
Dr. Holt and his wife, Mary, live in Annapolis and have 3 children. Dr. Holt enjoys sailing, painting, fishing, boatbuilding, and contributes much of his time to cultural reform activities.
