Karen R. Hartke, PA-C
Karen R. Hartke, PA-C joined Orthopaedic and Sports Medicine Center in 2014 as a Physician Assistant to Dr. James York, orthopaedic surgeon, who specializes in reconstructive shoulder, knee, total joint, and cartilage transplant surgery and subspecialty in orthopaedic sports medicine. Karen received her undergraduate degree with academic honors graduating cum laude in dual major in Art History and English at State University of New York at Stony Brook as well as receiving six semesters under national deans list. Karen had several years of health care experience working in a cardiac hospital in New York. Karen then went on to complete her Physician Assistant degree graduating with academic honors; summa cum laude from D’Youville College in 2000. During her clinical training, she was selected to train with medical students and residents in hospital based clinical rotations which included a stipend. Karen is a member of the American Academy of Physician Assistants. She is also a member of the national association of spine surgeons.
After graduating, Karen worked in a level one trauma university hospital in New York for three years as a surgical physician assistant which included a vast amount of orthopaedic rotations. She then relocated to Maryland where she worked as a surgical physician assistant at Baltimore Washington Medical Center. While at BWMC Karen had dedicated her time to orthopaedics. Karen subsequently joined Chesapeake orthopaedics private practice where she worked with a spine surgeon and total joint specialist for six years. Karen then joined Dr. York while working at Chesapeake Orthopaedics since 2011. Dr. York and Karen had joined OSMC together.
Karen enjoys spending her free time with her husband, two twin children and their German shepherd. They enjoy fishing on the bay during the summer and ice skating in the winter.
Karen works closely with Dr. York in our Pasadena and Millersville offices. She assists with diagnosing and treatment planning, history and physicals, post-op and follow-up evaluations.
